Patricia Coleman The Hearts Journey

February 2005

Hi Patricia

I’m so happy we finally connected. I hope this gets through to you. I have looked at both your website and that of The Way of the Heart and I am impressed with the depth of the information and intrigued by the dynamics of the processes.

I am sure the questions do not fully embrace the scope of the Reiki application; however, I am attempting to find a starting point for people who may not be familiar with the therapy, or who may shy away from alternative therapies. If there is anything that you particularly wish to impart, or that you feel is important that I have overlooked, please feel free to include it.

1. What is Reiki and how does it impact health conditions?

Rei (Ray) – Universal, Ki (Key) – Life Force Energy. Reiki is one of the more widely known forms of energy healing. Energy Healing involves direct application of Ki for the purpose of strengthening the client’s energy field, both internally and externally. This is accomplished by the Reiki practitioner laying his/her hands on the client and becoming a channel allowing the Reiki energy to flow through them to the client.

2. Are there conditions/ailments for which Reiki is particularly effective?

Reiki treatments are effective for any and all types of conditions and/or ailments from the chronic-physical to emotional. The only limit to Reiki’s healing potential appears to be due to the clients’ ability or willingness to let go of old habits or paradigms and allowing the Reiki healing to take place.

3. How quickly can a patient see improvement in their condition?

Most clients will notice a change in how they are feeling after the first Reiki session they participate in. A general feeling of physical and emotional wellbeing is what most clients feel after each session which lasts for an extended period of time. Older, more chronic ailments will naturally take longer for healing to take place because the energy holding the ailment in place will need more attention in order for a shift to take place. Once again, a lot of how quickly a client heals has to do with the attitude of the client. The “intention” of the client is always the control valve on how much and how quickly healing can and will take place.

4. Is there an optimum number of sessions required to see improvement and maintain it?

Some people may need just one treatment to shake loose stuck energy which allows healing to take place and others will need ongoing sessions in order to free themselves from the ailments and conditions that they are seeking help from.

5. Does a patient need to do periodic maintenance sessions?

Most clients see and feel the value in continuing periodic session in order to continue taking their own healing into ever deeper levels. We have clients who choose to come weekly, others biweekly, others monthly. Most clients who have ongoing Reiki treatments will at one point decide to empower themselves and take Level l Reiki which allows them to do treatments on themselves.

6. How long does a session take?

Each session takes approximately one hour to complete. Some time is taken before treatment to discuss with the client what it is they wish to accomplish and after the treatment to briefly discuss how the session went.

7. Does someone need to learn to practice Reiki themselves in order to maintain the benefits?

One does not need to learn how to practice Reiki in order to sustain and build the benefits of receiving Reiki treatments but learning Reiki is a low cost and effective way of building up and maintaining good health on all levels. It can also deepen the treatments with a practitioner.

8. Have you treated children and, if so, what ages?

I have worked on women from preconception all the way through their pregnancies. Plus children from age 5 up they know and are very receptive to the positive energies and also often will tell you when they have had as much as they need!

9. Can someone be too young for a Reiki session?

Is conception too young? J

10. Are there conditions for which Reiki would not be recommended, or for which it would not be effective?

I feel that Reiki works very well for any conditions. Reiki energy works very closely with the emotional body of the client and as the emotional body comes more into balance all types of healing on all levels can begin to take place.

11. Is there a type of person or personality for whom Reiki would not achieve any positive results?

Once again I would like to impress that all of Reiki healings take place in a time and manner that is directed by the intention of the client. If the clients intention or ability to allow healing to take place needs gentleness and an extended period to time then that is exactly what will take place. Conversely, if a client is open and willing to go deeply and has a desire to move quickly through their issues then they will move as quickly as their intentions will allow.

12. Alternatively, is there a personality type which achieves more positive results with Reiki?

All personality types, all age groups, all ethnic groups, all sentient beings and even animals will achieve benefits from the healing energy of Reiki treatments. Being the type of person who sees the one small blue patch in a grey sky as a wonderful opportunity for a beautiful day always helps in any situation but even the person who sees the one little fluffy cloud in the sky as a sign of biblical rains will achieve positive results with Reiki treatments and quite possibly enable them to see the world through a different set of eyes.

13. Have you ever encountered a person, or a specific condition, for which Reiki was unsuccessful?

See above! J not that I have come across although they suggest that with a broken bone that you wait until it is set properly before doing healing work.

14. Do you find that knowledge about Reiki, and acceptance of it as a viable health therapy, is growing in the general populace?

I think that as we see our Health Care System going through an upheaval people are realizing more and more that they cannot keep their trust in system that they may have depended on for decades. Reiki is a powerful tool that one can use as a preventative tool and in order to maintain ones health. More and more people are gaining the knowledge that continuing preventative self-care measures is a better and smarter method for maintaining good health rather than waiting for something to go wrong and then trying to fix it. The knowledge and acceptance of Reiki is constantly growing and where just a few years ago it was considered somewhat of a fringe modality it has become completely accepted much the same as what acupuncture went through in the last couple of decades.

15. How much does a Reiki session (or group of sessions) cost?

A session of Reiki will cost around $95-140.

16. Is Reiki covered under any health plans?

There are many different types of health plans and some are more open minded than others. Each person will have to check with their specific plan to see if they are covered. If you are not covered this may be a great chance to inquire why Reiki is not covered and search out a company with a more open minded attitude towards preventative health care.

Reiki is a safe, non invasive and gentle way of stimulating the clients own healing abilities into action. The sessions are carried out in a quiet, relaxing atmosphere with the client clothed and with a sheet or blanket covering them. The client does not “need” to “do” anything other than show up for their appointment and then just relax and most likely fall asleep while the treatment is taking place. The client can talk with the practitioner while treatment is taking place but most people find that they just quietly drift off into the energy of the Reiki treatment.

Having Reiki treatments done on you is a wonderful extremely relaxing way of promoting self healing but we at Inner Heart want everyone to learn how to use this tool themselves. Our Reiki Level l class attunes you to the healing energies of Reiki. This class covers two days after which you will be able to do Reiki treatments on yourself. Everyone who takes Reiki Level l gets attuned to the energy of Reiki. There is no passing or failing or “not getting it.” Everyone who takes Reiki Level l gets their own bodies natural Reiki healing abilities “switched on” and once it has been turned on it will be switched on for the rest of your life. Like any muscle, the more you use your Reiki abilities the stronger it becomes. You can lay down your Reiki tool for years or even decades but if you decide to pick it up once again it is always there inside of you waiting to be called forth.

Hi Everyone!

A beautiful thought from a qigong friend.

Much Love, Patricia

A water bearer in India had two large pots, each hung on the ends of
a pole which he carried across his neck. One of the pots had a crack in it,
while the other pot was perfect and always delivered a full portion of
water. At the end of the long walk from the stream to the house,
the cracked pot arrived only half full. For a full two years this went on
daily, with the bearer delivering only one and a half pots full of water to
his house. Of course, the perfect pot was proud of its
accomplishments, perfect for which it was made. But, the poor cracked pot
was ashamed of its own imperfection, and miserable that he was able to
accomplish only half of what it had been made to do.

After 2 years of what it perceived to be a bitter failure, it spoke
to the water bearer one day by the stream. “I am ashamed of myself, and I
want to apologize to you. I have been able to deliver only half my load
because this crack in my side causes water to leak out all the way back
to your house. Because of my flaws, you have to do all of this work, and
you don’t get full value from your efforts”. The bearer said to the pot,
“Did you notice that there were flowers only on your side of the path, but
not on the other pot’s side? That’s because I have always known about your
flaw, and I planted flower seeds on your side of the path. Every day as we walk back,
you’ve watered them. For two years I have been able to pick these
beautiful flowers to decorate the table. Without you being just the way you
are, there would not be this beauty to grace the house.”

Moral: Each of us has our own unique flaws.

We’re all cracked pots. But it’s the cracks and flaws we each have
that make our lives together so interesting and rewarding. You’ve just got
to take each person for what they are, and look for the good in them.

Blessed are the flexible, for they shall not be bent out of shape.

Remember to appreciate all the different people in your life!

Blessings to all my crackpot friends

THE ANT AND THE CONTACT LENS

Here is story to help put things into perspective. I am the first one to admit that I am in need myself from time to time

A true story-Brenda was a young woman who was invited to go rock climbing. Although she was very scared, she went with her group to a tremendous granite cliff. In spite of her fear, she put on the gear, took a hold on the rope, and started up the face of that rock.

Well, she got to a ledge where she could take a breather. As she was hanging on there, the safety rope snapped against Brenda’s eye and knocked out her contact lens.

Well, here she is, on a rock ledge, with hundreds of feet below her and hundreds of feet above her! . Of course, she looked and looked and looked, hoping it had landed on the ledge, but it just wasn’t there.

Here she was, far from home, her sight now blurry. She was desperate and began to get upset, so she prayed to the God to help her to find it.

When she got to the top, a friend examined her eye and her clothing for the lens, but there was no contact lens to be found. She sat down, despondent, with the rest of the party, waiting for the rest of them to make it up the face of the cliff.

She looked out across range after range of mountains, thinking of that verse that says, “The eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth.” She thought, “God, You can see all these mountains. You know every stone and leaf, and You know exactly where my contact lens is. Please help me.”

Finally, they walked down the trail to the bottom. At the bottom there was a new party of climbers just starting up the face of the cliff. One of them shouted out, “Hey, you guys! Anybody lose a contact lens?” Well, that would be startling enough, but you know why the climber saw it? An ant was moving slowly across the face of the rock, carrying it on it’s back.

Brenda told me that her father is a cartoonist. When she told him the incredible story of the ant, the prayer, and the contact lens, he drew a picture of an ant lugging that contact lens with the words, “Lord, I don’t know why You want me to carry this thing. I can’t eat it, and it’s awfully heavy. But if this is what You want me to do, I’ll carry it for You.”

I think it would probably do most of us good to occasionally say, “God, I don’t know why you want me to carry this load. I can see no good in it and it’s awfully heavy. But, if you want me to carry it, I will.”

Trust that there is a Bigger picture.~

July 2004

Hello! I came across the following story, and thought it was sweet:

“Once upon a time, there was an island where all the feelings lived; happiness, sadness, knowledge, and all the others, including love.

One day, it was announced to all of the feelings that the island was going to sink to the bottom of the ocean. So all of the feelings prepared their boats to leave. Love was the only one that stayed. She wanted to preserve the island until the last possible moment. When the island was almost totally under water, love decided it was time to leave. She began looking for someone to ask for help.

Just then, Richness was passing by in a grand boat.

Love asked, “Richness, can I come with you on your boat?”

Richness answered, “I’m sorry, but there is a lot of silver and gold on my boat and there would be no room for you anywhere.”

Then Love decided to ask Vanity for help, who was passing in a
beautiful vessel. Love cried out, “Vanity, help me please.”

“I can’t help you,” Vanity said, “You are all wet, and will damage my beautiful boat.”

Next, Love saw Sadness passing by. Love said, “Sadness, please let me go with you.”

Sadness answered, “Love, I’m sorry, but, I just need to be alone now.”

Then, Love saw Happiness. Love cried out, “Happiness, please take me with you.”

But Happiness was so overjoyed, that he didn’t hear Love calling to him.

Love began to cry. Then, she heard a voice saying, “Come Love, I will take you with me.” It was an old man. Love felt so blessed and overjoyed, that she forgot to ask the old man his name. When they arrived on land, the old man went on his way. Love realized how much she owed the old man.

Love then found Knowledge and asked, “Who was it that helped me?”

“It was Time,” Knowledge answered.

“But why did Time help me when no one else would?” Love asked.

Knowledge smiled and with deep wisdom and sincerity, answered, “Because only Time is capable of understanding how great Love is.”
